What a difference a year makes!
Last year at this time we were clamoring for more rain and now this year it seems like it will never stop. I thought I would never say it but we need it to dry out here for a few weeks to get some projects completed on the prairie. There are numerous plans for dirt work or blind installation (or both) on most of the leases which can only be implemented if it dries out a bit.
Lease organization is winding down over the next week to ten days. Most of the line-ups are set with only a few select spots still open. If you plan to get on a lease or have someone else in mind to recommend, time is running out. Most of the cash calls for the deposit money from everyone have been sent with the second installment request coming up shortly. If you have not sent any money in and want to be on one of the leases now is the time to square it up. All lease money has to be paid up to take part in the opening day dove festivities.
Everyone keeps asking about our scouting for next season with John Persha's graduation from college. We have a replacement—Teddy Bertolatus. Teddy also goes to A&M with the same great motivating forces we love in all of our scouts: beer money and chicks. Teddy appears to be a little more studious than some of his predecessors which we hope will translate into a quick uptake on the properties, scouting, etc. Have patience though as Teddy gets up to speed as he just started in May. Persha will continue as part of the program with a spot on one of the leases and remaining in charge of scouting on the weekends themselves. With his knowledge of the properties and a strong back, Persh will continue to be an asset for anyone on the leases needing help out on any of the leases with a hunt, finding a property, transportation or logistics. Just remember you will need to give him a little more advance notice now that he is in the working world.
We also plan to add more youth in August with a sophomore equivalent from A&M or one of the area colleges. Have a recommendation, let us know. There is an application under the title "ABOUT US" on the main home page and then clicking on Lease Services.
