Getting into the Season
Opening day of Central Zone dove season was a big success with almost all hunters walking away with limits. Monday was a wash out with the rain. Things are beginning to dry out and most of the crops have now been harvested. Expect another hunt or two for central zone dove over the next two weeks.
Teal Season opening weekend was also a resounding success for just about all of the leases. The Lissie and Altair/Rock Island areas were especially hot. If you have not made it out yet, try to make it out before the end. This could be a teal season to remember.
Website: please sign up for The Coop forum if you have not already. Jay Daigre can help you get registered if you are having trouble. The Coop is where all lease communication will be centralized by the end of September.
Shirts and Hats: Lots of new merchandise has come in and it looks very good. There is a new YbHC logo and new shirt and new hat for this year. Camo and non-camo hats are available. Jay Daigre will be peddling this stuff between now and our happy hour at the end of October. All proceeds go back into the program to defray costs.
Safety: Couple of items came to my attention this weekend so give me a second on the soap box. First is the "safeties" on guns—those need to stay on until the gun is being shouldered. The "clicking" of that safety to the off position when birds start working is an unsafe habit. If this is the way you were taught, then it is time to change. Second, when you are hunting over decoys, if a dog or a person or both are retrieving birds in the line of fire, there should not be any shooting. Not only is this courteous but also a general safety rule. I saw and/or heard about a couple of violations of these rules this weekend. No bird is worth getting a dog or worst case a person shot.
