Yardbird Chatter - January 3rd, 2007
Into the home stretch of the season, if you haven't made it out by now, time is running out. The hunting pressure from the holidays will subside with mid-January sometimes producing some of the best hunting of the year. See below for season closing info.
Posting: As you know, we require that you post on the website the day before making a hunt on any of the properties. This helps us gauge the pressure on the properties, plan hunts, etc as well as it serves to let the other members know who else to expect on a hunt and what areas to hunt when other members are going out. For this to work, it needs to be done at least the night before you make the hunt. We understand sometimes you will have a last minute window that will allow you to hunt. But a post should still be put up prior to the hunt. Its a courtesy to the other members and a big help to us in managing the properties.
Property closings: we have certain days the properties are open for hunting and other days they are closed. This is designed to control hunting pressure and maximize the collective hunting effort. If you don't know the open days for a particular property, ask us for the relevant days for that property. Please adhere to these dates. Any deviation from these days must be pre-approved by me.
Scouting is an important part of what we are about. John Persha has been a big part of that over the last few years. He will be graduating from A&M in May and looking for a job. If you know of a job lead, pass it onto one of us. I will be happy to provide a reference for john's work with Yardbird. Also, we will be looking for a suitable replacement for John next year. If you have a lead for that position, please forward it to Barry or me. College students attending one of the schools in Houston or at A&M are the best fit for us.
Poaching: is always a problem with any hunting lease and ours are no different. We attempt to combat the problem by letting our landowners and farmers know who each of the members are, what vehicles the members drive and what days they can generally expect hiunting. This works to some degree but we need your help as well. Let us know if you see suspicious activity on a property. The universe of people that should be on a property at any time is finite so don't hesitate to ask someone you see who they are. Our landowners, farmers etc each have family members that may be on the property as well. Courtesy to them is required but take note of who they are and pass it back to us that you saw them on the property. Landowner or farmer family member hunting is strictly by permission only from us.
