The "Halftime Intermission" in the 2008 duck season has come and gone.
The first split started strong but finished fairly weak with very warm, dry conditions causing the straps to be very light. The one bright spot over the first split was the goose hunting. We had hunts of 80, 41, 36 and 20 the first split. We are posting notices of these goose hunts on the "General Clucking" board on The Coop. Many of these hunts can be late notice on weekdays as we are timing the weather and the birds but if you can make them, generally it can be very good.
Preparations have been made for the final split of the duck season and prospects overall look fair. Very dry conditions continue to persist over the prairies west of town with many of the big rains that have fallen over the last few weeks in Houston proper have largely missed any parts west of Katy and Rosenberg. Where we can pump, we have turned on the pumps. Otherwise where we are tied into the canal system, we are at the mercy of the rain gods.
If you have not made it out to the Farris for a night, you should try to fit that into your schedule. It has been a lot of fun to date and we have a few special events coming up over the next few weeks. Friday December 12th we are hosting a dinner for Lodge Members (members only at the Farris and the properties on the opening weekend of the second split). It is BYOB as always but the food is on YbHC. Then on Saturday December 20th we are hosting the first Family Night. Feel free to bring out up to four family members. Please coordinate your guest requirements for your hunt with your lease captains.
