EAGLE LAKE, TEXAS
YbHC
Yardbird Hunting Club
Frequently Asked Questions
How many members does YbHC have? We will have around 90 members in 2009.

Where are you located?Eagle Lake, TX.  Most properties are west of Houston and usually within an hour and fifteen minutes of downtown.

What do you hunt?We hunt Doves, Ducks and Geese primarily.

How do you have access to your hunting areas?Through leases primarily that permit dove and waterfowl hunting with "guaranteed water" and prepared hunting spots.

When can I hunt? You can hunt during the legal hunting season.  The properties are rotated to control pressure on a set schedule for the best hunting.

Why YbHC versus other programs in the area?We are not a day-hunt operation.  We are a private "pass through" syndicate of experienced, individual hunters with pooled resources.   We have been doing it for a while and have mastered the keys to acquiring and leasing successful land.  We set up that land for optimum waterfowl hunting and aggregate the right number and mix of people on the leases. We perform regular scouting and share information with our members.  We generally charge a little more but have a few less guns on our lease(s) than the other lease programs.  We think our properties are better on average than other properties in the same areas.

What other benefits do you offer?
Access to the Farris lodge.
4 to 6 invitations to dove hunt (at no cost) a central zone property on an invitation basis only
(see photos under the photo link).
One to two invitations to dove hunt (at not cost) a south zone property.
One to two invitations to waterfowl hunt (at no cost) with the "A-Team".
Two to three invites for scouted weekday goose hunts (at no cost).  The scouting is provided by our
   trusty college road warriors.
Access to scout services.

What is the guest policy and how does it apply to relatives? The policy is lease specific but typically excludes opening weekends.  No guests, spouses or relatives at the opening day dove hunt.

Are there guides available?Typically you guide yourself.  Several members have dogs, 4 wheelers and equipment approximating guide-status.  Take a look at our discounted rates for Yardbird members offered through Third Coast Outfitters.

Do you have evening hunting?No.

Do I need to have decoys? Most properties have limited decoys onsite.  It never hurts to have a few bags of your own.

Do you have day hunts available? No.  We suggest hunting with Randy Triplett of Third Coast Outfitters.   See the Links page for details.

Is there a limit to the number of hunts I can make?No limit.

Can I bring my dog?Yes.  Please be courteous to your fellow members.  If you have a young dog then teal or dove season is an excellent time to get field experience.  However, come regular duck season make sure your dog is tight.  That means limited to not "breaking."  Most members are experienced and serious hunters who have all been there with our puppies.  If one of your fellow members asks you to stake your dog or kennel your dog, please honor that request.  If she is in heat, DO NOT bring her.  Not even in the car.

Do you have mandatory work days during the year? Not mandatory, but help is much appreciated (and rewarded).  Stay tuned for the annual oleander roundup.

How do you communicate when there are scheduled hunts? The website has been specifically set up to handle this using The Coop, an online forum.

What type of hunting can I expect?  Are there be blinds/pits/levees/mud?
We go out of our way to promote great hunting via rotation and expert site preparation.  Setups vary according to property.  We have gone out of our way to build custom blinds that are comfortable and effective, but sometimes a good ditch is hard to beat.

How do I become a Yardbird? The majority of our members are recommended by an existing member.  Click here to submit your information.  We approve our members only after meeting and evaluating their contribution to the program.  Once approved, we will slot you into a lease program which we think you mesh with the existing members.
