Yardbird Teams up with Hunts for Heroes

On December 15th and 16th, the Hunts for Heroes (www.huntsforheroes.com) organization and Yardbird Hunting Club LLC hosted 4 disabled veterans in a waterfowl hunt on the Eagle Lake prairie. The veterans were brought in from Brooke Army Medical Center and were lead by a representative from the Hunts for Heroes organization.  The hunters stayed at the Farris Hotel in downtown Eagle Lake.  Prior to the hunt, the participants were treated to a gun safety lesson as well as target practice to familiarize the veterans with the operation of a shotgun.  Following the gun lessons, the veterans were provided to a dog retrieving exhibition put on by Brian Szczech of Gold Plated Gun Dogs.

During the evening prior to the hunt, steaks and trimmings were prepared and served to each of the participants.  Following dinner, the group gathered fireside to exchange stories with some of the other veterans and Club members that were in attendance on Tuesday evening.   Wednesday morning the hunters departed and hunted either land leased by Yardbird or land donated by Billy Hodges, the founder of Hunts for Heroes.  Both groups of hunters returned with bags containing over 20 ducks for each group.

The event was generously underwritten by Don Cochran of Platinum Air Cargo, Jeff Young of Enterprise Commercial Paving and John Knock of Yardbird Hunting Club.  Participating members of Yardbird Hunting Club include Jay Daigre, Brad Hassack, Torrey Hawkins, John Knock, J. J. McAnelly, Knox Nunnally, Caleb Sutton, Matt Willcox, Barry Young and Jeff Young.  Cooking was provided by Kenneth Knox.

Yardbird plans to organize additional hunts in the future such as this one.  Please contact us if you would like to donate funds, land or equipment in support of our wounded vets.
